Mechanism for the Cross-Border Adjustment (Price) of Carbon

Svaka stvar u prirodi deluje prema zakonima!

WHAT IS CBAM?

CBAM is a European Union (EU) environmental policy instrument designed to apply the same carbon costs to imported products produced outside the EU as those incurred by installations operating within the EU.

CBAM is an instrument for achieving climate objectives under the Fit for 55 package.

THE PURPOSE
OF INTRODUCING
CBAM?

To reduce the risk that the EU’s climate objectives are undermined by relocating production to countries with less ambitious decarbonisation policies (so-called “carbon leakage”).

To prevent “carbon leakage” by introducing an obligation to pay for emissions associated with the production of goods imported into the EU.

To encourage companies outside the EU to reduce their carbon emissions and transition to a low-carbon economy.

START OF
CBAM
IMPLEMENTATION?

The CBAM Regulation was adopted in May 2023, the implementing regulation in August 2023, and CBAM implementation began on 1 October 2023.
